Oculus Plaza Is *the* Place to Watch the U.S. Go for a Women’s World Cup Threepeat

No team — women’s or men’s — has ever achieved the mythical threepeat (three titles in a row) at the World Cup. The U.S. Women’s roster, winners of the last two years’ final matches, hopes to make history this summer at the Women’s World Cup, hosted in Australia and New Zealand. And you, along with several sports fans, can witness the inevitable (fingers crossed!) right here in Lower Manhattan.

Despite the many time zones separating stateside viewers from those Down Under, the American team has been given a cushy 9 p.m. kickoff time for their upcoming games. Denizens of downtown are flocking to WTC Oculus Plaza (33 Vesey St.), where a giant projector has been showing games for free and adding to an already electric atmosphere. Yes, you can actually hear the fanatics cheering on Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and the rest of the red, white and blue.

The setup is located on the north side of the Oculus, near the flagpoles. Also, the Oculus Beer Garden will be selling sudsy refreshments and light bites until 11 p.m. on game days.

Next up, the U.S. women’s players take on the Netherlands on Wednesday night at 9 p.m., a rematch of the 2019 final and one of the most anticipated games of the first round. You can view the full schedule for free viewing parties here.
