The largest steel sculpture in New York City upon its 1973-74 installation, Tony Rosenthal's "5-in-1" stood at 35 feet and weighed over 22 tons. The piece is comprised of five interlocking discs — made of CorTeen steel and painted red — to represent the five boroughs. The city commissioned this work in the early 1970s for 1 Police Plaza's pedestrian mall. Rosenthal is also known for the rotating cube "Alamo," located at Astor Place.
