99 Church Street

Covering three plywood street facades on the Silverstein Properties construction site at 99 Church Street, this 500-foot-long work will highlight 99 versions of the international “walk” symbol found on traffic signals around the world. “The ‘walking man’ is an international celebrity and one of our most recognizable figures,” says artist Maya Barkai. Collected from around the world, the work is presented by ADA Art Consulting and Elinor Milchan. The project will be on exhibit for one year.

"As everyone knows, I'm a huge believer in Lower Manhattan, and this wonderful community has really been a great supporter of our efforts to rebuild,” said Larry Silverstein, President and CEO of Silverstein Properties. “And I care passionately about public space art—which is one of the many great things about Downtown. I am delighted to be able to contribute to this rich tradition with Maya Barkai's installation at 99 Church Street. The international theme of this work is perfectly suited to the Four Seasons hotel and residences we are developing on this site. I am grateful to Liz Berger and the Downtown Alliance for this innovative approach to improving our neighborhood."
