Downtown Alliance Joins Opening of Anne Frank Center USA in Lower Manhattan

Alliance for Downtown New York President Elizabeth H. Berger joined civic, religious, an cultural leaders to celebrate the opening the Anne Frank Center USA, the American partner of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. These cultural centers are dedicated to sharing the story and diary of Anne Frank and the Holocaust as a continual reminder of the consequences of anti-Semitism, discrimination and hatred.

“In her diary, Ms. Frank wrote, ‘how wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world,’ “ said Berger. “The Anne Frank Center is truly a reflection of these words – words that continue to teach and inspire millions around the world. Last year 9.8 million tourists visited Lower Manhattan, so I believe there is no better place to share the important mission of the Anne Frank Center. The Center will be a tremendous educational resource for Lower Manhattan’s 310,000 workers, 57,000 residents, including many families with kids who have yet to learn the important story of Anne Frank.”

The Center is located at 44 Park Place and includes a permanent, interactive exhibit with excerpts from Anne’s diary; stories about other residents of the Secret Annex; and space for reflection. The Center also includes a classroom and space for public programs.

Otto Frank founded the Anne Frank Center in 1977 and it has been operating for 35 years, distributing travelling exhibits across the United States, offering school programs and attracting youth, families and adults to programs at its public space.
