Downtown Alliance Releases Post-Sandy Report: Lower Manhattan is Back to Business

Four months after Hurricane Sandy, Downtown Alliance data shows substantial progress across Lower Manhattan’s commercial, residential, tourism and small business markets. While isolated restoration work continues, the vast majority of Lower Manhattan – the area below Chambers Street – is back to business:

  • 99 percent of commercial office space is open,
  • 99 percent of residential inventory is open,
  • 96 percent of hotel inventory is open, and
  • 90 percent of retailers are open.

Back to Business: The State of Lower Manhattan Four Months After Hurricane Sandy gives a thorough account of the impact of Hurricane Sandy on Lower Manhattan and the district’s swift and remarkable progress toward recovery.
