DOWNTOWN ALLIANCE SPONSORS ‘DOWNTOWN EATS’ FOOD TOURS IN MAY

In recognition of Lower Manhattan’s historic role as both source and broker of a wide variety of edible commodities, the Alliance for Downtown New York will sponsor the “Downtown Eats” food tours in May. The culinary adventures will feature some of Downtown New York’s most exciting eateries and will be led by noted food historian and award-winning cookbook author Alexandra Leaf.

The first event, “Downtown Eats: A Taste of Lower Manhattan’s Past,” will take place Saturday, May 16, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Participants will explore the flavors of the neighborhood that put New York on the culinary map. Sample some of Lower Manhattan’s historic treats among its cobblestone streets, famous skyscrapers, and lovely waterfront views. Stops on the historic tour include Christopher Norman Chocolate, Stonehouse Olive Oil, Jack’s Stir-Brewed Coffee, Harry’s and Fraunces Tavern.

The second tour, “Downtown Eats: A Chocolate Discovery Walk,” will take place Sunday, May 31, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Attendees will taste artisanal chocolate made fresh in Lower Manhattan, enjoy wine-chocolate pairings at Lower Manhattan wine shops, and more.

Participants will also discover the surprising relationship between Lower Manhattan and the world’s favorite confection. Stops on the chocolate tour include Christopher Norman Chocolate, Financier, Greene Grape, Maison du Chocolat, The Libertine and Stonehouse Olive Oil.
