Downtown Alliance Will Kick Off St. Patrick’s Day Festivities with Taste of Ireland Food Tour

The Alliance for Downtown New York’s walking food tour series, Lower Manhattan Eats, continues on Saturday, March 12, 2011 with a "Taste of Ireland” pre-St. Patrick’s Day trip through Lower Manhattan. Tour-goers will weave through the district’s narrow streets and learn about the rich history of the oldest part of New York City.

This year’s excursions, which are held monthly, are led by Liz Young, owner of Liz Young Tours and a certified culinary professional and licensed city tour guide. She’s been leading such tours in New York City neighborhoods since 2003, and has been a fixture in the city's culinary scene since 1995.

As in previous seasons, the culinary adventures feature a rotating cast of Lower Manhattan’s best restaurants. The March 12th tour includes visits to Ulysses Folk House and The Bailey Pub and Brasserie, with other venues to be announced.

February’s sold-out “Savor the Romance” tour included Valentine’s Day-themed tastings at California Wine Merchants, La Maison du Chocolat, Les Halles Downtown, Mad Dog and Beans and Stella. Participants previously have enjoyed wine and cheese pairings, Italian antipasti plates, lobster BLTs, artisanal olive oils, chocolate ganache, and much more of the area’s tastiest fare.

WHEN: Saturday, March 12, 2011, from Noon to 3:00 PM
WHERE: Starting point: TBD
