Alliance for Downtown New York Honors 34 Legacy Businesses in Lower Manhattan

The Alliance for Downtown New York honored 34 Lower Manhattan businesses as Legacy Businesses in a reception on Thursday morning at the historic Delmonico’s steakhouse at 56 Beaver St. These businesses have been established and served their local community since at least 1999. The honorees were recognized for their resolve, relationship-building and commitment to the downtown neighborhood.

Each of the Legacy Businesses has persevered through such difficult periods as 9/11, Superstorm Sandy and the Covid-19 pandemic among other events, and have remained cornerstones of Lower Manhattan’s small business community. The businesses were given a plaque and a window decal to commemorate their longevity and show the public their long standing service to the neighborhood. At the reception, Downtown Alliance President Jessica Lappin and NYC Department of Small Business Services Commissioner Kevin D. Kim spoke in appreciation of these businesses.

“Our small locally-owned businesses are part of our magic sauce, ” Lappin said. “It is often said that if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. So it was a real treat to honor the business owners who have been operating in Lower Manhattan for 25 years or more. They are a big part of the fabric of our community and we celebrate their resiliency and success.”

“I was thrilled to join the Downtown Alliance’s Legacy Business Breakfast at the historic Delmonico’s steakhouse,” Kim said. “The small businesses we honored represent some of the best New York City has to offer. As any small business owner can tell you, staying in business for more than 25 years takes grit, determination and a lot of hard work. I want to thank Downtown Alliance President Jessica Lapin for putting this wonderful event together, and for her partnership as we work to ensure these businesses are around for another 25 years.”
