Open-Streets Restaurant Service Is Expanding in Lower Manhattan

The Department of Transportation’s Open Streets: Restaurants program, which the Downtown Alliance launched in Lower Manhattan back in July in partnership with several area restaurants, is expanding: Mayor de Blasio announced this week that the in-street, car-free outdoor dining initiative will now operate during weekdays, as well as in more streets across the city. 

Lower Manhattan’s Open Streets will continue closed traffic on Pine Street from Pearl Street to William Street and Pearl Street from Broad Street to Hanover Square to accommodate the program. The closure will run Monday–Friday, 5p–11p and Saturday–Sunday, 12p–11p.  

The program will also include Ann Street, from Theatre Alley to Nassau Street, in addition to the existing locations. “Open Streets: Restaurants has been a literal breath of fresh air for New Yorkers,” Downtown Alliance’s Jessica Lappin told the Post, “and a lifeline for many businesses.”
