Indoor Dining In NYC Scheduled To Return

UPDATE, Wednesday, March 10: Cuomo has expanded indoor dining to 50% capacity, starting March 19.

UPDATE, Monday, February 8: Cuomo has announced that indoor dining can begin on Friday, February 12. Previously, he had announced February 14 as the start date.

After a brief shutdown to quell climbing COVID-19 infection rates, Governor Cuomo announced on Friday that indoor dining can resume in New York City on February 14.

As was the case when indoor dining returned in September, restaurants will start at 25% capacity. The indoor dining return is a bit more precarious than it was back in September, when infection rates were below 1% — on Friday, the single-day statewide positivity rate dipped under 5% for the first time since mid-December. The seven-day positivity rate in NYC is 5.3%.

The state will continue to watch positivity rates ahead of February 14 and determine whether to go ahead with reopening indoor dining if the numbers continue to trend downward.

If you’re planning to do some indoor dining, remember to wear your mask when talking to your server and tip generously.
