Alley Cat Amateur Theatre Is LM’s Coolest Nightspot
By: Caroline De Tino
Lower Manhattan’s newest lounge, Alley Cat Amateur Theatre is a unique underground bar from Serge Becker, known for hits like Joe’s Pub, La Esquina, The Box, and Miss Lily’s.
Located in an old mechanical room in The Beekman Hotel‘s cellar, it combines theatre, izakaya, and speakeasy influences throughout the space. Theater props line the staircase, set pieces are featured around the bar and a stage to accommodate live music and guest DJs completes the secret bar ambiance.
What makes this bar unique aside from its display? Their cocktails and food, of course! Alley Cat combines classic cocktails such as margaritas and old fashions, and infuses them with Japanese flavors. Some of their signatures include the Kosho Margarita, Tonkotsu Old Fashion, and Tokyo Gin Fizz. Their tapas-like food menu also brings you Japanese influences with dishes like Miso Broiled Shrimp and Grilled Maitake Mushrooms.
For an ambience like no other, visit the Alley Cat Amateur Theatre Tuesday through Friday from 6 PM to 2 AM and Saturday from 7 PM to 3 AM!
