Recycle Your Old Summer Reads at Our September Book Drive

August 17, 2026

The only thing better than old books is new books, but in New York City, bookshelf space is a precious (and limited) commodity. If you’re looking to make some room for the latest ACOTAR installment, give your erstwhile beach reads new life by bringing them to our September book drive. The drive will be ongoing at ADNY’s visitor information kiosks at the southern entrance of Bowling Green Park and Church Street near Dey Street just south of the Oculus starting September 1, with books going to residents at various housing locations run by our long-term partners at the Bowery Residents’ Committee (BRC).

For the drive, paperback books are preferred, as are any books that fall under the category of “summer reading” (mysteries, adventure, sci-fi/fantasy, horror, drama, romance, etc). Please note that we will not be accepting DVDs this time, so you’ll have to hang onto that “The O.C.” box set for now. The book drive drop will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the full month. For more on BRC’s great work with the unhoused community in our district and beyond, visit their website.
