A Year After the Grand Re-Opening, What’s in Stock at Century 21?

It’s been about one year since the grand re-opening of Century 21’s flagship location (22 Cortlandt St.), which brought thousands of enthusiastic shoppers to Lower Manhattan. A year later, the store’s four levels of clothing, perfume, shoes, accessories, household goods and much more continue to delight shoppers looking for affordable designer goods.

On a recent May day, the Alliance stopped by to see what’s in stock at Century 21 and chat with shoppers.

“The prices are quite affordable,” first-time visitor Juliette Bègue told us. “The fact that you can find designer clothes and designer shoes is cool. It makes it accessible for all kinds of people, whether you are on a small budget or bigger budget.”

On the ground floor of the store, shoppers will find plenty of handbags, ranging from affordable totes perfect for summer picnics in the park to rare vintage purses. This floor also houses a well-stocked fragrance department, designer sunglasses, a curated selection of luggage from brands like Samsonite and American Tourister and a beauty section with gift sets galore. The first floor also had plenty of racks with household items that would make for great gifts, like gilded picture frames and colorful serveware sets. The displays are organized by price, making it easy to find presents for your specific budget.

The lower level of Century 21 is where you’ll find seasonal children’s clothing along with what feels like endless racks of shoes. While many department stores offer just one or two shelves per shoe size, Century 21’s offerings are at least twice that. Whether you need a new pair of sneakers to motivate you to actually go to the gym or a colorful pair of sandals for your upcoming vacation, you’re all but guaranteed to find them here.

You’ll find women’s apparel on the second floor. Everything from swimsuits to formal gowns to on-trend jeans can be found here. Among the seasonal offerings on display during the Alliance’s visit were some lightweight jackets perfect for the (hopefully) last of the gray spring weather and colorful cocktail dresses ideal for the summer weddings you’ve inevitably got on your calendar.

The third level of the iconic department store will take you to the men’s section. Plenty of seasonal items like swim trunks and bright suits are on display, along with stylish sweaters, breezy t-shirts and classic button-downs. Both the men’s and women’s department feature work-appropriate pieces, so if you spill sauce on your shirt an hour before that client meeting, it’s easy to find a stylish replacement in no time. The third floor is also where you’ll find the in-house alterations department to make sure everything fits just right.

For New Yorkers and tourists alike looking for a bargain, Century 21 is truly a one-stop shop.
