You Have Until 5 p.m. Today To Change Your Party Registration For The Mayoral Primary
Today is the official deadline to change your party registration if you want to vote in this year’s mayoral primary in June. Typically, the deadline to change your registration is Valentine’s Day. But Governor Cuomo issued an executive order this week that extended the deadline to today (Tuesday, February 16).
Only registered Democrats can vote in June’s mayoral primary — primaries are typically in September, though this year’s election is a bit earlier than usual — and the winner of that race is expected to go on to be elected mayor. With about 40 candidates running and ranked choice voting in effect for the first time, the primary is guaranteed to be one of the most interesting and consequential elections in New York’s history.
Change your registration in person before 5 p.m. today at the Board of Elections offices, including one near Lower Manhattan at 200 Varick Street.
