South Street Seaport Water Taxi Cruise
(from the Broadsheet Daily)
Dec. 31 will mark the end of the first decade of the 21st century. It will also be a night of the “blue moon” – that is, the second full moon in the month, which, as the expression indicates, doesn’t happen very often. Perhaps a good way to celebrate the occasion would be aboard one of the ships that will ply the Hudson River with ample amounts of Champagne aboard, some food, music, dancing and noisemakers at midnight. Here are some suggestions.
Zephyr: Circle Line Downtown’s luxury yacht has large enclosed spaces for partying and several open decks for the hardy. Revelers on the two-and-a-half-hour cruise will find an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and a live DJ with dancing. The boat is equipped with 10 flat screen TVs on which guests can watch the Times Square ball drop so they can whoop and holler at the appropriate moment. Departs from Pier 16 in the South Street Seaport. Boarding at 9:30 p.m. Sails at 10 p.m., returning at 1 a.m. Tickets, $209 (must be 21 or over with valid ID). For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.
Manhattan: The Manhattan is a lovely and intimate luxury yacht launched in the spring of 2006 that replicates the boats that used to go up and down the Hudson River in the 1920’s, taking their owners from their Hudson Valley estates to their homes and offices in New York City. On New Year’s Eve, the vessel will carry 44 passengers in its heated, glassed-in lounge and outdoor decks. The four-hour New Year’s Eve celebration will include hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine and Champagne, music and fireworks. (Mixed drinks/cocktails are not included, and are available for purchase.) To preserve the evening’s ambiance, guests are asked to dress in formal and festive attire. Departs from Chelsea Piers, (near 22nd Street on the Hudson River) at 9 p.m., returning at 1 a.m. (Exact meeting location details will be provided upon purchase of tickets.) Tickets, $325. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here. On New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2010, the Manhattan will offer a brunch cruise, sailing at 10:45 a.m. and returning at 1:30 p.m. Tickets, $125. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.
Audubon: Statue Cruises, which ferries people to and from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, offers a New Year’s Eve cruise aboard its recently renovated luxury yacht, the Audubon. The evening includes an open bar, hors d’oeuvres, dancing and a Champagne toast at midnight. Departs at 9 p.m. from Battery Park, returning at 1 a.m. Tickets, $185. For more information, call 877-523-9849 or click here.
Cabana: Guests aboard World Yacht’s Cabana will celebrate New Year’s Eve with an open bar, hors d’oeuvres, music, dancing, a midnight Champagne toast and party favors. Boarding begins at 9 p.m. with a 10 p.m. departure from Pier 81 at West 41st Street, returning at 1 a.m. Tickets, $190. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.
