In the days and months after 9/11, people across New York and around the country were trying to make sense of an event that was difficult enough for adults to grasp, let alone young children. The beloved show “Sesame Street” found a way to help. In the season that followed the attacks, the children’s program drew on decades of experience talking about challenging subjects to help families navigate fear, grief and uncertainty.
On August 25 at 6 p.m., the 9/11 Memorial & Museum will bring together leaders and creators behind Sesame Street’s response to 9/11 for a conversation about the show’s approach to helping children through confusing times. 9/11 Memorial & Museum president and CEO Beth Hillman will be joined by Sesame Workshop senior vice president of global education Dr. Rosemarie Truglio, television producer Carol-Lynn Parente and actor and retired FDNY Captain Bill Walsh.
The conversation will also explore Sesame Workshop’s long history of helping children and families understand difficult topics, and how that work continues 25 years later. To see this thoughtful conversation about how one of New York’s most beloved children’s programs helped families navigate an incredibly tough moment, reserve your spot here.
