Though the dollar slice of yore may nearly be extinct (just like the penny), there’s another quick lunch in the district you can also get for 100 pennies. Enter the aptly named Dollar Taco, an outpost of the beloved Astoria taqueria hidden inside City Acres Market at 70 Pine St.
Here, head to the counter in the back corner of the lower level of the grocery store for freshly made tacos with big flavor for un poco. If you want dollar tacos, you only have two decisions to make: chicken tinga or roast pork, and how many. You can get orders of 5, 10, 20 or even 50 tacos for a dollar each, so decide what you’re in the mood for and if you feel like sharing. Hot tip: you can order ahead of time online, which is what we’d recommend if you want several dozen tacos to share with your team.
Dollar Taco also has birria tacos (for more than a dollar), tostadas, quesadillas, burritos and more, but the star here is obvious. Plus, you can shop for a drink and a sweet treat within the store while you wait for your food. What’s not to love?
