Bring Your Old Docs and Duds to Our Fall Shred-a-Thon and Clothing Drop-Off

Fall is (very, very nearly, we promise) here, which means it’s once again time to round up your old wardrobe and unwanted documents that are collecting dust and toss ‘em in favor of next season’s styles and invoices featuring your Social Security number. On Saturday, October 5, the Downtown Alliance is hosting a fall shred-a-thon and textile recycling event. Head to Fulton Street (between Ryders Alley and Cliff Street), where a mobile shredding truck will securely destroy and recycle all your sensitive documents, tax receipts, junk mail and old bills (staples and paperclips are okay). Shredding hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until the truck is full. Please limit to 10 bags/boxes per person.

You can bring freshly-laundered clothing, accessories and textiles for recycling. Accepted items include clothing, shoes, belts, handbags, hats, as well as household linens (curtains, sheets, towels), courtesy of Wearable Collections. Please leave carpeting, rugs, bath mats, comforters, pillows, large luggage, fabric or scraps of any kind, including pre-recycled insulation materials, at home. You’ll find a full list of accepted items here, and Wearable Collections offers suggestions for donating items they don’t accept here
