You’ve heard of farm to table. This summer, get ready for farm to slip. Coenties Slip, that is.
GrowNYC’s Water Street Greenmarket just opened for the season on June 1st. Located at Water Street and Coenties Slip, the greenmarket brings farmers from New York, New Jersey and Vermont every Thursday to Lower Manhattan from 8 AM to 6 PM.
The offerings at GrowNYC’s greenmarket not only taste great, but buying them will make you feel good. The group works to preserve local farmland, while ensuring that New Yorkers across all five boroughs have access to fresh, healthy food grown in the region. Everything available for sale is 100 percent farmer grown, produced, foraged, or caught.
With an array of fresh, local vegetables, orchard fruits, bread, wine, cheese, and more waiting for you, what’s equally great is that vendors accept EBT, debit and credit cards, WIC, and Senior FMNP coupons along with cash. And for every $5 spent with an EBT card, a $2 Health Buck coupon will be given for the purchase of additional fruits and vegetables.
While you’re there, don’t forget to look out for cooking demonstrations, free recipes, and community activities at every greenmarket!
