That Green Sewer Slime Isn’t Supernatural…We Think

Last week, an eagle-eyed pedestrian in Lower Manhattan spotted something a little strange…a mysterious green slime, which appeared to be coming out of the sewers on Cedar Street. Behold, as seen on X:

Though the post sparked quite a bit of speculation over the origin of the apparent sludge, it seems neither the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles nor paranormal “mood” slime were to blame. The New York Post reports that the green liquid is likely from green dye plumbers use to detect leaks in the sewer system (though you should still avoid touching it, just in case).

A spokesperson for the MTA told the NY Post that there were no reports “of anyone gaining superpowers and/or any teenagers becoming sword-wielding turtles,” adding, “I haven’t heard any news of any particle accelerator explosions or lightning storms.” But if the sludge does turn out to be other-worldly, fear not: we’ve got a whole plan for combating it right here
