Gallery Exhibit at 28 Liberty Inspired by Artist’s Childhood Memories

Gallery Exhibit at 28 Liberty Inspired by Artist’s Childhood Memories

When growing up on his grandparents’ farm in Taiwan, James Hsieh became fascinated with nature’s wild diversity. He recently took that childlike interest and turned it into large-format art with jazzy texture and colors now on display at Fosun Plaza (28 Liberty St.).

The immersive environments that Hsieh assembled in ”No Place I’d Rather Be” are the latest installation in the Art of the Ave series. The artworks include pieces of all sizes — hand-sewn soft felt textiles and sculptures intended to mix Hsieh’s amazement at nature with adult thoughts and emotions. The brightly colored pieces evoke bugs climbing up walls, plants bursting with life and bright murals of city life.

The exhibit will run through April 21 as part of Art on the Ave, a program that started in 2020 as a response to the pandemic. Email [email protected] to make an appointment to see the exhibit.
