The city will celebrate the New York Knicks’ NBA championship win on Thursday, June 18, with a ticker-tape parade winding up Broadway starting at 10 a.m. This is the Knicks’ first championship win since 1973, and the first time the team is being honored with a parade, and over one million people are expected to show up for the festivities. It’s an exciting event, and it will also create some interruptions in the neighborhood, with street and subway entrance closures expected on Thursday. See below for details, and if you’re planning to go to the parade, be sure to show up early, wear comfortable shoes and sunscreen, and have some water and snacks handy.
Street Closures:
The NYPD will assign a no parking detail for the parade at midnight on June 18. They will begin vehicle street closures at 8 a.m. on Thursday morning. The entirety of Broadway will be closed from Battery Place through Worth Street, with the parade itself ending at Broadway and Chambers Street. Additional street closures will be on:
- State Street between Whitehall and Battery Place.
- Battery Place between Broadway and West Street.
- Side street closures between Greenwich Street, Trinity Place and Church Street on the west side of the parade and Nassau and Broad streets on the east side of the parade.
- Park Row between Ann Street and the Brooklyn Bridge will be used for official parking.
Please be advised that there will be limited access to deliveries during the event due to crowd sizes and street closures. NYPD may close or limit access to additional streets as needed.
MTA Changes:
Buses will be rerouted during street closures. The City Hall station for the R, N and W lines (at Broadway and Murray Street) will be closed and trains will skip that stop.
At Fulton Center, the Broadway entrance and exits will be closed during the event. This is subject to change depending on the crowd size. Other MTA train lines and subway entrances may be affected.
Route Details:
The parade will gather on Broadway at Battery Place and West Street, and at 10 a.m. will begin traveling up Broadway. The parade will conclude at Broadway and Chambers Street near City Hall, where Mayor Mamdani will present the team with the key to the city.
Crowds:
With over one million spectators expected, you should plan for an increased police presence, transit disruptions and mobility challenges throughout the district. Spectators are expected to begin gathering early Thursday morning (possibly overnight) and will likely disperse by mid-afternoon.
Please keep an eye out for future updates with more information on street closures and other possible restrictions on access to the neighborhood.
