One of Our Compost Bins Has a New Location Near City Hall

Some exciting news: One of our new compost bins has a new location near City Hall!

The bin formerly stationed inside the north entrance of Bowling Green has made a journey a few blocks uptown, to the northwest corner of Broadway and Park Place. This’ll make it easier for City Hall employees and residents at the northern tip of our district to drop off their compost. For those who’ve been using the Bowling Green bin, don’t worry: There’s still a bin inside the park at the southern entrance, as well as the GrowNYC drop off at the Bowling Green Greenmarket on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

If you haven’t taken advantage of our neighborhood composting program with the Department of Sanitation, here’s a video that shows how easy it is to use these Bluetooth-connected receptacles.

Per the video, all you have to do is follow these five steps:

  1. Scan the bin’s QR code
  2. Download the eGate digital app
  3. Sign up
  4. Tap the bin to open
  5. Ta-da! Place your compost in the bin and shut the lever closed

Everyone is welcome to sign up to use the bins for food scraps and other compostable items using the eGate Digi app (be sure to access via the link or the QR code on our bins to ensure the activation code populates), and any questions you have can likely be answered on our dedicated FAQ page.

If you are having trouble with the bins, remember that you can report issues in the app and be sure to include a description to help with troubleshooting.
