Your Job Is Beach: NYC Ferry Will Take You From Wall Street to the Rockaways

We are now in our second (third? fiftieth?) heat wave of the summer, and the streets of downtown are baking. There are plenty of things in the neighborhood you can do to stay cool, but if you’re looking for a breezy escape and an ocean dip, here’s your reminder that you can hop the NYC Ferry in Lower Manhattan and head right to the Rockaways.

The big ferry stop at Wall Street Pier 11 on the east side of the neighborhood is a hub for most ferry routes, meaning you can get just about anywhere along the East River and beyond, from as far north as Throgs Neck in the Bronx all the way out to the Rockaways; and from Bay Ridge in Brooklyn up to Astoria in Queens. The Rockaways ride takes just under an hour, and comes with scenic views of the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty and even Coney Island. Plus, there’s a bar aboard the boat if you want to pair your trip with a beer or hard seltzer.

A one-way trip runs $4; seniors, persons with disabilities and participants of the Fair Fares NYC program can net discounted tickets for $1.35. You can find more information on NYC Ferry’s website
