Pearl Diner Makes the Cut for Eater’s “Diners We Adore” List

This week, Eater restaurant critics Melissa McCart and Robert Sietsema compiled a list of 21 holes in the wall for Diners We Adore in NYC. And we were delighted to see that among the coveted establishments was Pearl Diner (212 Pearl St.), the beautifully battered 51-year-old greasy spoon that has been plating up eggs, pancakes and reubens since Kennedy was in office.
Interestingly, McCart and Sietsema focused on the Greek dishes over the typical breakfast-grill fare:
This diner has famously avoided urban renewal and now stands dwarfed by skyscrapers in its Wall Street neighborhood. The welcome Greek pneumatos of the place results in dishes like shrimp Aegean, souvlaki platters, and pork gyro pitas, but all the standards are ably represented, with a sideline in stuffed baked potatoes.
Anyone else suddenly have a craving for an oversize spud with melted cheddar?
Pearl Diner is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. for in-person service and pickups as well as delivery via apps like GrubHub and Seamless.
