Seaport’s ‘Viewfinder’ Exhibit Shows ‘Time Capsules’ Of 2020’s Creativity And Strength
Looking back on 2020, it’s hard not to focus on the more challenging moments. But amid the turmoil of the past year are stories of personal resilience, of how we endured by finding calm and hope in quiet reflection. A new photography show Downtown highlights the creativity and strength that kept us afloat: The Seaport District presents “Viewfinder” at Night Gallery (19 Fulton Street), an outdoor exhibition of works by Los Angeles- and New York-based photographers that depict “time capsules” of pivotal moments from 2020.
Curated by Dylan Warmack in partnership with Manual Photo, “Viewfinder” features understated quarantine portraits of streetscapes and sunsets, of friends covening in parks and on rooftops, of contemplative moments of solitude. On view through January 31, the exhibition is best experienced at night, when the photos are backlit on display in the Seaport shop windows.
