These Streets and Subway Exits Will Be Closed for the NY Liberty Ticker-Tape Parade

The city is celebrating the New York Liberty’s first WNBA championship win on Thursday, October 24 with a ticker-tape parade from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. If you’re headed to the neighborhood for the party — or just need to get around downtown — please note that there will be a number of street and subway closures, as well as bus detours. Pedestrian street crossings may also be closed, and there may be additional subway closures or bypassed stations depending on crowds, so please build in extra commuting time. It is highly recommended that you take public transportation as No Parking will be in effect beginning at 12 a.m. midnight on October 24. Expect crowds to start gathering early. If you plan on watching the parade, the city recommends staking out your spot before 9 a.m. See below for details, and note that these closures will commence at 9 a.m.

Street closures for vehicle traffic:

  • Broadway between Reade Street and Battery Place will be closed to southbound vehicle traffic.
  • State Street between Battery Place and Bridge Street.
  • Battery Place between West Thames Street and Broadway
  • 3rd Place between Battery Place and Little West Street
  • 2nd  Place between Battery Place and Little West Street
  • Little West Street between Morris Street and Battery Place
  • West Street between Morris Street and Battery Place
  • Morris Street between West Street and Washington Street

Note:  Church Street will remain open to vehicle traffic. There will be no eastbound or westbound vehicle traffic crossing Broadway. Traffic will be frozen at 9 a.m. Deliveries can be made on cross streets by hand truck.

Subway/bus changes:

  • Bus will be detoured during the parade above Worth Street and Broadway
  • The subway stations surrounding City Hall will have exits closed. These include the R,W trains on the east side of Broadway and the 4,5,6 trains at Park Row Plaza. The R,W trains will be skipping the City Hall station entirely.
  •  The 4/5 Bowling Green Station directly north of the National Museum of the
American Indian will only be accessible for ADA passengers.
  • The MTA may also choose to bypass stations, depending on crowds. Check the MTA’s website for up-to-date service changes.

The Downtown Connection bus service will also be suspended for the entire day on Thursday, October 24. Normal service will resume on Friday, October 25.

Pedestrian crossings

Pedestrians will be able to cross Broadway at the following locations: Exchange Alley, Cedar Street, Cortlandt Street, Vesey Street, Chambers Street and Reade Street. These locations will be subject to closure depending on crowd size and timing of parade.
