A Cup From Voyager Espresso Will Ready You for Morning Launch

For the latest entry in our series celebrating Black-owned businesses downtown during Black History Month, might we recommend a caffeine boost so good it will send you to space.
That’s the vibe at Voyager Espresso, an intergalactic-themed coffee shop located in a passage to the Fulton Street Station. The sleek space itself looks like it could be part of a mess hall on a space station, while the science and artistry behind the coffee are inspired by astronomer Carl Sagan.
The shop’s website talks about Sagan’s influence, saying his “passionate study of the cosmos transcended science to become a marvelous pursuit of wonder.”
Voyager (110 William Street, via the John Street subway entrance) was opened in 2015 by Will and Angery Mejia. On Instagram, the pair posts frequently about Voyager’s bean selections, latte art and pour-over processes, while also lightly roasting the corporate competition. They’re dedicated to the actual sciences of their espresso’s flavors, textures and aromas — and they love recommending such futuristic concoctions as espresso tonics and that summer favorite: the sparkling lavender lemonade.
Voyager also sells pastries, whole beans and Sagan-themed tees. The commuter-centralized location makes it ideal for a pick-me-up at any time of day, and they’ve always got a chessboard at hand if you want to linger in their space.
