Where to Be Seen in Lower Manhattan
Looking for the best place to stay in New York for World Pride? Consider Lower Manhattan your perfect base to kick off your celebrations. Home to iconic tourist attractions like Wall Street, the Charging Bull and the Statue of Liberty, Conde Nast also calls the neighborhood the place “where Manhattan’s true heart beats.”
With events happening across the city from Brooklyn to Times Square, Lower Manhattan offers “a sophisticated escape, with over 35 hotels to choose from, is refreshingly walkable and just a short subway hop from all World Pride events,” according to Jessica Lappin, President at the Downtown Alliance.
Here’s a look at where to be seen in Lower Manhattan:
Crown Shy is the most recent newcomer to the neighborhood, a new American restaurant located at 70 Pine run by former NoMad executive chef James Kent and his business partner Jeff Katz.
A visit to Manhatta is an unrivalled experience, located on the 60th floor of 28 Liberty, the Danny Meyer restaurant features its own private elevator ride to the top of the building. The menu serves up new American food in a subtle, understated restaurant that lets the incredible 360 degree views do all the talking.
Nobu relocated from Tribeca into the former Telegraph building at 195 Broadway, bringing its world famous sushi – and clientele – along with it.
Inside the Beekman Hotel, you have your choice of Tom Colicchio’s Temple Court or Keith McNally’s Augustine, or a night out at nightclub impresario Serge Becker’s Amateur Alley Cat Theatre, an underground cellar with American cocktails and Japanese-inspired izakaya menu.
Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog is an unpretentious Irish-American inspired spot that is the winner of awards like the World’s Best Cocktail Bar.
BlackTail, a Hemingway-inspired Cuban bar and restaurant located on Pier A, is run by the same folks at the Dead Rabbit, and serves up the equally award-winning cocktails.
The Wooly Public is home to craft cocktails and is nestled into the ground floor of Lower Manhattan’s original skyscraper – The Woolworth Building.
A stop into luxury shopping destination Brookfield Place reveals dozens of high-end retailers, plus fine dining at Beaubourg Brasseries or Michelin-starred L’Appart. This Downtown best kept secret is so cozy and hidden it’s like watching the chef prepare you a meal in his own apartment.
For the sake of your Instagram, be seen on the floor of the Oculus, an architectural marvel by world-famous architect Santiago Calatrava. While you’re there, look up and you’ll see the One World Trade Center towering above the glass Oculus’ windows. In just a few minutes, from an entrance inside the Oculus, you can be 102 floors above Downtown, and see everything from the One World Observatory.
Get out on the water and make your followers Insta jealous on a Manhattan by Sail sailboat or a private yacht rental from Tribeca Sailing.
