Praise Ellie: For the first time in its franchise history, the New York Liberty are your WNBA champions. To celebrate this momentous occasion, on Thursday, October 24, the city will throw a ticker-tape parade in Lower Manhattan. It’s going to be a party, complete with floats, elected officials, music, tons of airborne “ticker-tape” confetti and of course the Liberty champions themselves (our beloved Ellie the Elephant hopefully included). This isn’t just the first ticker-tape parade since 2021 — it’s the first ticker-tape parade ever for a New York-based women’s sports team, so it’s a pretty big deal.
If you’d like to catch the parade, it’ll kick off at Battery Place at 10 a.m. and wind its way up Broadway, concluding with a special ticketed ceremony at City Hall Plaza at noon. You’ll be able to see it from the sidewalk — on the east side of Broadway from Morris Street to Park Row, and on the west side of Broadway from Battery Place to Chambers Street — although if your office building happens to face Broadway, you might get a good aerial view without going outside. Note that if you’re commuting into Lower Manhattan on Thursday, there are some street and subway station closures to keep an eye on while the parade is ongoing. If you plan on watching the parade on Broadway, the city recommends finding a spot before 9 a.m. (And if you’re commuting to work on Thursday, consider heading to the neighborhood even earlier than 9 a.m. to avoid crowds.)
