World Cup Outdoor Viewing Parties Kick Off Downtown

World Cup season is about to take over the world again, only this time it’s during the holidays.

This year, the quadrennial international soccer tournament is being hosted by Qatar, where the oppressive summer heat necessitated moving the tourney to the cooler months. The games began on Sunday, November 20, and denizens of downtown are already enjoying the cushy amphitheater setup at 28 Liberty. And you’ll be able to watch even more of the big matchups on two large outdoor screens outside the Oculus (185 Greenwich Street).

Starting December 3 through December 18, the World Trade Center is partnering with the local pro-soccer team the New York Red Bulls for a World Cup viewing party — they’ll be showing all knockout round games during those days. The two screens will be on the north side of the outdoor beer garden and near the flagpole on the Oculus plaza.
