Water Street Awash in Flags

The sounds of sirens, bagpipes and cheering children enveloped Water Street Thursday afternoon.  It was time for Lower Manhattan’s 2012 Flag Day Parade – marking the 235^th anniversary of the adoption of the American Flag by the second Continental Congress in June 1777.

The Downtown Alliance’s red-coated public safety officers joined the patriotic march, which began at City Hall Park, proceeded south on Broadway, toward the East River on Fulton, and then headed down Water Street to historic Fraunces Tavern. You can see images from the parade here.
