Ranked-Choice Voting: How Does It Actually Work?
This year’s municipal elections bring with them a major sea change. Not only are we electing a new mayor, but we’ll also be electing a new comptroller, five borough presidents, a new Manhattan District Attorney, and nearly two-thirds of the city council, to name a few.
The pool of candidates is vast and diverse, and we now have a new ranked-choice voting system, too. But how does it actually work?
On May 12, join LMHQ and the Downtown Alliance for an overview of ranked-choice voting: the process of voting, the benefits to candidates and strategies that voters can employ to make their voices louder. You’ll walk away excited to learn more about your favorite candidates and ready to elect the leaders who will make the best choices for the future of New York City.
The event is part of the Downtown Alliance and LMHQ‘s “Know Before You Vote” series, free virtual workshops focused on the municipal elections. The first event that was held in April, “Know Before You Vote: Who Does What,” provided an overview of the roles and responsibilities of NYC elected officials.
The series is also in partnership with the League of Women Voters and the Downtown-Lower Manhattan Association. Register for the events at LMHQ.nyc, and mark your calendars for New York City’s primary on June 22.
