Bird-Watching Tours Are Back at the Battery

You might have seen the silly memes declaring “nature is healing,” as creatures of all types took advantage of the lack of humans in public spaces during COVID-19. Now you can see some of that nature for yourself: free bird walks from NYC Audubon are returning to The Battery.

You can explore the diversity of migrating birds that live and forage for food at The Battery during guided tours with an experienced birder and naturalist on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, starting September 15. The tours begin at 8a; RSVPs are required, and the groups are limited to fewer than 10 people to ensure social distancing. Participants are expected to wear masks, maintain social distancing and refrain from sharing binoculars or other equipment.

The walks will be led by Gabriel Willow, an NYC Audubon educator who has been leading walks for the group for 10 years and is an expert in the ecology and history of the city.
