Delivery Or Takeout: Which Is Safer?

As New Yorkers get more acclimated to the city’s new normal, we are faced with questions we never imagined we’d have to ask ourselves. For instance, is it safer to go out to the supermarket or get delivery? 

Thankfully, Gothamist posed this among other questions to Stephen Morse, professor of epidemiology at the Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. According to Morse, delivery is safer than going out but the usual precautions apply. Keep in-person contact at about six feet of distance. Wash your hands after touching any potentially contaminated surfaces. 

Morse added that if someone walks or runs by you without abiding by that six-foot rule, don’t panic: It’s not the end of the world if they’re not sneezing or coughing. “Nothing is ever completely without risk,” Morse said, “but probably for most people it’s going to be very low risk.”
