After relaunching its website earlier this year, the Downtown Alliance  created its first-ever iPhone app  called Downtown NY.  It’s available for free in Apple’s App Store.

The new events-based iPhone app, created by Philadelphia-based interactive design and marketing firm I-Site, gives you “everything happening in Lower Manhattan in the palm of your hand.” The app includes shortcuts to the most common searches on our new interactive map. You can quickly click on “Where To Go” and search for restaurants, shops, parks, museums and much more. The results are displayed on our interactive map on our website, where you can refine your search, get directions, and search nearby.

The app is also being used to provide real-time information. With Hurricane Irene arriving in the area,  we’re using our new app to update residents with various alerts, including notifications about evacuating, transit service and power outages.
