Hello, Lower Manhattan!

I’m excited to be joining the Downtown Alliance team to lead everyone through some of the best restaurants that Lower Manhattan has to offer.

Prior to running my food walking tour business, I worked indoors at restaurants and schools in Lower Manhattan. For about five years I was the General Manager of a neighborhood restaurant in the World Financial Center, and deeply entrenched here.

I hardly went north of Chambers Street!

Even though most of that time was spent inside the restaurant, I got to know the Lower Manhattan area, especially the restaurant scene.

After years in the biz, I stopped working in restaurants in 2001, finished culinary school, and then dabbled in personal cheffing and culinary education.

But I still yearned to be outside, to see and feel the city more fully, and to know the people and the happenings. To that end, I started doing food tours as part of a food studies Master’s degree at New York University and decided to go into that business full time (www.LizYoungTours.com).

I frolicked in the streets and became a licensed New York City tour guide. Years later, I see there’s an endless learning curve to knowing this town, even in the area where I first worked in the city.

On my food tours, you, too, will be able to get to know Lower Manhattan, enjoy the sites, and oh, yeah, also get to eat and drink at the plentiful restaurants and bars here.

Not a bad recipe, huh?

The best tours include happy, fun and hungry people. Are you one of them?

Then come join us on Saturday, February 19th at noon, when we start off on a three-hour tour through Lower Manhattan. The theme of this first tour is Savor the Romance, especially because it comes on the heels of one of the most romantic holidays of the year, Valentine’s Day.
