Wine Is What You Bring to Your Friend’s Party

Despite every host’s insistence that you really don’t need to bring anything, the truth is that there’s no way you’ll show up to a friend’s apartment empty-handed. It’s a strange little song and dance we all do as we abide the world’s nonsensical social graces — or maybe we’re compelled to perform the fleeting gesture out of loneliness, a desperate act in order to keep getting invited to these things. Who knows? Anyway, Emily Post might recommend showing up with a bouquet of seasonal blooms or a nice bottle of olive oil, but in actuality, wine is what you should bring above all else to a party.

And if you need someone to point you in the right direction for a crisp rosé or a cozy chianti, the staff at Financial District Wine & Liquor (120 Nassau St.) has plenty of recommendations. For something a little stronger, they’ve got a wide collection of hard-to-find liquors that’ll impress even your most pretentious acquaintances. You can also find them hosting in-store tastings from noon to 11 p.m. most days, and if you’re short on time, you can get your online order (a minimum $20 purchase) delivered for free if you live nearby.
