A New Bike Lane Is Coming To Broadway

To help people enjoy the outdoors while maintaining social distance, Lower Manhattan is getting a new temporary bike lane along Broadway, from Barclay Street to Morris Street, starting this week. The new lane is part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s open streets initiative.

“To date, we announced several waves of open streets opening up, a total of over nine miles,” de Blasio said on Wednesday. “By tomorrow we will double that total. This will be different types of open streets: it’ll be streets managed by local partners like Business Improvement Districts.”

The Department of Transportation is slated to begin the installation on Thursday, May 14.

So whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or new to enjoying those wheels, there will be more room for you Downtown.

In March, de Blasio announced the Citi Bike Critical Workforce Membership Program, which offers free ridership to critical first-responder, health-care and public-transit workers during the COVID-19 outbreak.
