Everyone Should Wear A Mask, CDC Says

A whole lotta mask talk has been happening over these past few weeks — Who should wear a mask and when? — and now the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has come out with the verdict that, yes, when venturing outside, everyone should wear a mask.

The federal agency announcement doesn’t mean that everyone should run out and buy much-needed personal protective equipment (PPE), though. Medical-industry-grade face coverings, such as N95 masks, surgical masks and the like, should be directed to front-line workers in need. Luckily, you don’t need the skills of MacGyver or even MacGruber to slap on a bandanna or dish towel before venturing out to the grocery store or going for your daily (or weekly) walk.

A CDC official elaborated to the Washington Post about the thinking behind the change in guidelines — that, unlike the previous rules which suggested that only people showing symptoms should don a mask, asymptomatic people should wear the mask as well.

Remember to wash your masks, ad-hoc or otherwise, often. And if you’re wearing disposable masks, make sure to throw them where they belong when you’re done with them.
