Greenwich South

The Downtown Alliance has advocated a plan for what could and should happen in Greenwich South, the neighborhood directly adjacent to the World Trade Center. The objective is to achieve a dense, vibrant and diverse urban realm. 

The established principles were intended to adapt to evolving interests and market conditions over the next half-century. This document has the following goals: 

• Defining a compelling vision for the future of Greenwich South 
• Establishing key planning concepts to guide future development, both public and private
• Identifying a list of opportunities to achieve this vision over the short- and long-term Influencing public-policy decisions that are critical to realizing the vision for Greenwich South’s future 

In the past five years, the Greenwich South corridor has seen several promising developments, including:

• Construction of over 600 residential units across three buildings and nearly 1,200 hotel rooms at 4 hotels;
• A new 310,000 sq. ft. office building that includes a large community center run by Trinity Church;
• A 476-seat public elementary school;
• The Robert Douglass Pedestrian Bridge connecting the neighborhood over the West Side Highway to Battery Park City;
• Liberty Park, a one-acre, elevated park at the World Trade Center complex  
• Elizabeth H. Berger Plaza, joining together two underutilized concrete plazas into a landscaped park
