Walking Tour Invites You to View Lower Manhattan “Through a Jewish Lens”

Jews are often left out of the New Amsterdam narrative, but they were an important part of building colonial New York. To explore that history, the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust (36 Battery Place) is hosting an intriguing walking tour on Thursday, August 25. 

The tour will explore the stories of the first Jewish people who set foot in New Amsterdam nearly 400 years ago, as historian Lucie Levine offers a running commentary on how the story of Jewish immigration began downtown. “We’ll trace the Jewish experience in Colonial and post-Revolutionary New York,” Levine promises, “viewing familiar landmarks such as Castle Clinton, Bowling Green, Federal Hall and the Stock Exchange through a Jewish lens.”

The tour begins at 5 p.m. A $10 donation to the museum is suggested.
