Happy 100th Birthday to the NYSE Christmas Tree Lighting!
A whole century has passed since the New York Stock Exchange lit its first Christmas tree on Broad Street in 1923. The event, which coincided with President Calvin Coolidge’s national push for tree lighting as a promotional tool for electric lighting, is now an annual downtown event.
This year’s tree lighting celebrates the iconic 100-year-old tradition at Wall and Broad streets on Thursday, November 30. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., the free, family-friendly ceremony will feature a stellar lineup of performances, including the High and Mighty Brass Band, the NYC Gay Men’s Chorus, PS 150 Children’s Choir and some familiar faces from “America’s Got Talent.”
Hot cocoa and other seasonal refreshments will be on tap, and you’ll even get the chance to send a letter to Santa himself. Your move, Rockefeller Center.
