Con Ed Is Asking You To Conserve Energy During Today’s Heat Wave

You may have noticed that it’s a tad hot out — according to Accuweather, it feels like 97 degrees outside right now, and some meteorologists say we can expect a heat index of as high as 107 degrees. That kind of heat and the air-conditioner use that accompanies it can be pretty taxing to our city’s electric grid. If the electric grid overloads, we could be looking at rolling blackouts across the city, which aren’t fun for anyone. So Con Edison is asking New Yorkers to kindly limit their electricity use until tomorrow morning.

Here’s how you can help:

Set your building and/or home AC to the highest comfortable temperature. Use fans where possible instead and/or to help bolster AC if you are turning up the temperature

Do NOT run any appliances that you do not need to run before tomorrow morning

Keep shades, blinds, and curtains closed

Keep your lights off in as many places as possible

Stay cool and safe!
