Downtown Public Compost Pilot Program to End June 27
After 18 months of piloting secured access compost bins — during which, thanks to your dedication, the neighborhood has kept 105,157 pounds of organic waste out of landfills — the Downtown Alliance’s compost program will cease operations. Our last dropoff day will be Tuesday, June 27.
Users may start dropping off their compostable waste in the NYC Department of Sanitation’s Smart Composting Bins, as 11 bin locations are already currently active in Lower Manhattan. You can find and open the bins with the NYC Compost app on iOS and Android. A QR code to download the app also appears on each bin. You can also bring compost to the following community dropoff sites:
- 75 Battery Pl.
- Battery Park City Authority Rockefeller Park
- Tribeca Greenmarket (Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
You can find more information on locations, operating hours and accepted materials for the dropoff sites throughout the city here.
