Stream A Week’s Worth Of Free Movies From Indigenous Filmmakers
Like many of the city’s beloved arts institutions, the National Museum of the American Indian remains temporarily closed due to the pandemic.
But they’re still offering up robust online programming for Native American Heritage Month. On November 18, the museum will launch its 20th anniversary Native Cinema Showcase, which this year will take place for free and entirely online.
For a week and a half, the museum will put a few new films and shorts by Indigenous filmmakers online each day; the films will be available for streaming on demand for five days so viewers can watch at their convenience.
Films in this year’s showcase include options to suit the tastes of just about any cinephile, from “Conscience Point,” which follows the struggle to protect the land and heritage of the Shinnecock Indian Nation, the original inhabitants of the Hamptons; to “Blood Quantum,” a horror film about a Mi’kmaq reserve that’s surrounded by a zombie uprising, and whose indigenous residents find themselves immune to the growing plague.
The Native Cinema Showcase runs from November 18–27. The online schedule and streaming information can be found here.
