New Sustainable Playscape Brings Earth-Friendly Fun to Downtown
It’s never too early to start teaching kids about the importance of protecting the planet, and studies show that if you incorporate learning into playtime, it’ll have an even bigger impact. Such is the ethos behind Battery Playscape, a new Downtown playground with a sustainable theme.
Debuting this month, the playground was designed after Superstorm Sandy, and is both built to flood and recover, and to teach children about the importance of environmental and cultural awareness. Located across from 17 State Street, the playground is split up into five “ecology zones”: Bluff, with five granite slides; Riverbed and Marsh, with salt-tolerant gardens, sand/water play and tree houses; and Dune and Meadow, which have a puppet/improv theater called ShowBox.
The granite slides look pretty cool:
Battery Playscape opens on December 16.
