Downtown Alliance Launches 2011 “Lower Manhattan Eats” Food Tours
The Alliance for Downtown New York’s walking food tour series, “Lower Manhattan Eats,” will kick off on Saturday, February 19, 2011 with a “Savor the Romance” post-Valentine’s Day trip through Lower Manhattan establishments featuring oysters, chocolates, wine and more. Tour-goers will weave through the district’s narrow streets and learn about the rich history of the oldest part of New York City.
This year’s excursions, which will be held monthly, will be led by Liz Young, owner of Liz Young Tours and a certified culinary professional and licensed city tour guide. She’s been leading such tours in New York City neighborhoods since 2003, and has been a fixture in the city's culinary scene since 1995.
As in previous seasons, the culinary adventures will feature a rotating cast of Lower Manhattan’s best restaurants. This first stop will include California Wine Merchants, La Maison du Chocolat, Les Halles Downtown, Mad Dog and Beans and Stella.
Participants in previous tours have enjoyed wine and cheese pairings, Italian antipasti plates, lobster BLTs, artisanal olive oils, chocolate ganache, and much more of the area’s tastiest fare. Past stops included Harry’s Italian, Les Halles Downtown, Jack’s Stir Brewed Coffee, Alfanoose, Trinity Place and Zaitzeff.
WHEN: Saturday, February 19, 2011, from Noon to 3:00 PM
WHERE: Starting point: Front entrance to 120 Broadway, between Pine and Cedar streets.
