Downtown Alliance Statement on Port Authority Fare and Toll Proposal
Alliance for Downtown New York President Elizabeth H. Berger and Chairman Robert R. Douglass today issued the following statement regarding a proposal to raise tolls and fares to support capital projects:
“The Alliance for Downtown New York commends the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for taking a hard look at funding needs for the region’s transportation network. In 2007, we supported Mayor Bloomberg’s innovative congestion-pricing initiative as a way to finance key mass-transit projects. Today, the Port Authority’s toll and fare proposals suggest similar ways to safeguard the future of Lower Manhattan as a regional transportation hub. We urge the governors of New York and New Jersey to consider the full range of options and develop a plan that will strengthen our economy and keep our regional transportation network strong.”
