You don’t have to be an international traveler to hear some of the world’s most unique live music. Instead, head to Pace University’s Schimmel Theater (at 3 Spruce Street)! For the next two months, the facility will host Global Sounds, which celebrates the musical talents of artists from around the globe.
On March 20, The Nile Project, showcases the instruments and songs of the Nile region. This event combines different musical styles in the hope of raising awareness about the great river’s environmental challenges.
On March 22, Ghazal Ensemble, lets you listen to the unlikely, yet world-famous, duo of Shujaat Husain Khan and Kayhan Kalhor, which combines Persian and Indian music.
Next up is Rock and Roll Africa: Tal National on April 2. All the way from Niger, this African rock group combines African music with indie-rock. Hugely popular, their grooves burst with fiery energy.
Gracias a la Vida: The Rebel Spirit of Violeta Parra honors iconic Chilean artist, Violeta Parra through performances by Illapu and her niece, Colombina Parra. On April 17, all will perform songs that represent her inspiring work.
